A Little Sum'n Sum'n For the Female Anti-Feminist Brigade

So, this short post is really a delayed response to some of the anti-feminist (il-)logic that started to appear on my social media feeds after the #BeingFemaleInNigeria hashtag did it what it did (it did all the things, by the way).

Please, it is okay not to identify as a feminist. This shit ain't for everybody. But when "I'm not a feminist" starts to enter "feminism is nonsense" levels...oh boy...

This must-read short (very short. Read it!) piece I found on Mark Ruffalo's tumblr sums up very easily many of my thoughts on the matter of women who loudly shout that they are not feminists because, "I know many women and none of them are slaving away in the sun while men hump them even as they carry their babies on their backs. Also, CAN'T YOU SEE HOW NICE MY LIFE IS FEMINISM IS BULLSHIT."

If you don't get the fuck..!

Your life and its scope right now are the result of incredible sacrifice by some women. They may not have been fighting for you (White feminism, I see you), but some of their gains are now your gains. Before you open your mouth to dismiss the movement out of hand, think about why the words coming out of it are educated at all. Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti didn't die for you to be chatting shit.

It's nobody's fault but your own that you don't know what feminism is, and -- for the record -- shouting anti-feminist rhetoric is only going to make you popular with misogynists. Those people hailing you don't really like you. They think you deserve less than them because you're a woman. They think you have a place and you should know it. And they'll be the first to ignore or dismiss your voice if you are ever a victim of *insert any of the many forms of gendered violence that you will experience in your lifetime*. I promise you this.

Google is your friend. And it's still free! Know what feminism is. Learn that feminists are in your corner. For God's sake, do some damn research. I'll help you out; start here:

If you still (where 'still' means 'after doing research') have some nonsense argument regarding feminism that actually doesn't engage with feminism at all, don't let the door hit you on the way out. If you don't want to identify with feminism, that's perfectly fine. It would be ridiculous to pretend that it is a political or sociological position completely without flaws. But if you really think that you, as a woman living in the 21st century, have benefitted nothing from feminists who have gone before you,

And don't nobody want your stank ass no how.

  2. This is probably the first post I'm reading this year about Feminism. May be, just maybe some channels used are not proper mediums for the female's grievances
One time, I was hanging out with some Indian friends and they refused to go to black-american places or talk to black girls and started talking all manner of things about black women. Being the friendly, Lincoln-oration, calm-talker. I walked them through history lesson again, not because I am a man or a black individual

The reason why you bloody Indian students are walking about here freely in America today is because of the fights by these women. Women couldnt even vote in America till 1920s after the Seneca convention in NewYork
It was after this fight, that so many laws got reviewed including allowing women of other races married to Americans have equal rights as other women of the American community and mixed children.
If all that comes to your mind is just independent woman yada yada when talking feminism and not the struggles of women, then try ask more questions.

Kudos to the fighters out there (y)

  3. I believe all who are "human" are equal, male, female alike, but the real problem is for all of us to know when to stop. Believe it or not, the devil, that nigga don't sleep!
